Finding your inner Butisattvas

Buti Yoga – One of the newest yoga trends that is hot and it doesn’t look like it’s going to slow down folks. What is Buti Yoga you may ask?

“Buti” is a Marathi Indian term for “the cure to something that’s been hidden away or kept secret.” Buti is a practice of going within to discover your true power and full potential. It becomes the cure to any previous disillusionments of fear, lack, or weakness.

With a combination of power yoga vinyasa, tribal movement with a splash of a dance party in the middle with 20 people that become your closet friends at the end of class. The practice is physically challenging however to the most unique in it’s own right. No special skills are required to attend any Buti classes (we offer them at both of our locations!). It’s a great practice to promote self love and self acceptance when looking at yourself in the mirror and unlocking your full potential within yourself, which is the most liberating feeling in the world. I know from my own personal experience, I have felt strong, confident and love my body that I have ever have on my time on this earth. Some of are scratching your head and asking, ‘But is it yoga?’ Yes, it’s still considered a form a of yoga but remember kids, we don’t judge a book by it’s cover. I have invited some of my girl friends to take a Buti class with me and I always end up seeing them again next week. The class is liberating, filled a high intensity and a spiritual awakening for those seeking something more in their practice (such as myself). I remember a yoga teacher had said in class to us, “Yoga can be playful when you don’t take yourself too seriously.”

The Buti Yoga practice focuses on removing blockages in the first and second chakras to in turn activate our sexuality, power, and confidence. We are all born with these qualities, but living in Western culture and society, the power that originates from our first and second chakra gets muted. The physical and mental result? Tight hips and closed minds.

There are many cultures – from Native American and African tribes to Arabic belly dancing – that, much like we do in Buti, have dance rituals that incorporate hip and pelvic spiraling. These moves help to open and align our first and second chakras. You cultivate a whole new level of mind-body awareness, and find an entirely new definition of strong. I started practicing yoga about four years ago being curious about a hot yoga studio where I use to live. Found out it was strictly Bikram yoga, I began to practice for weight loss and stregthening. Until an instructor taught a Vinyasa class and became hooked. Due to the stresses of personal life I stopped practicing until my boyfriend had suggested for me to go back to yoga since it had brought me so much joy when I was practicing. Cut to two years later I find Get Zen Yoga. I began practicing again and finding myself and a community of amazing people. My favorite classes are power yoga and buti. My down time I still practice at the studio and spend time with my loves. I can honestly say yoga has brought back joy and self love into my life.
